Nicola Warner is known for her vibrant pastel landscapes full of exuberant marks and joy-ful saturated colour. She invites people to share her delight in living near the beach and her love of a good road trip. ‘Like so many of us, beautiful places thrill me,’ she says. ‘I feel them.’ She expresses those feelings, together with a fascination for dramatic light, in her paintings and enjoys creating the illusion of sunlight and shadow using only ‘little sticks of colour.’
Nicola works in soft pastel and oil pastel. While her soft pastel paintings are full of confi-dent pastel marks and splashes of colour, her oil pastel paintings are more stylised, with simplified shapes and print-like black edges. They are bright, saturated and jewel-like, often with big skies and a bit of a breeze.

Nicola is an Artist Member of Pastel Artists NZ (PANZ) and past winner of the national Purely Pastel Exhibition. She has had her work recognised in national and international exhibitions, recently exhibiting her largest collection of work at Art in the Park. Nicola is an enthusiastic pastel tutor and Auckland rep for PANZ.
